01

Define what is being resolved

Identify the parties, claims, incident, payment, and release language. Ask whether the document affects unknown injuries, future claims, other insureds, property damage, medical payments, or other coverage.

02

Build the payment waterfall

Request a written estimate identifying the gross payment, attorney fees, litigation expenses, medical bills, reimbursement or recovery claims, and estimated net amount.

03

List unresolved issues

Check whether treatment is ongoing, bills are disputed, benefit recovery is incomplete, another policy is under review, or another claimant may assert an interest.

04

Understand timing and finality

Ask what must happen before distribution, what documents remain, whether the release can be changed, and what rights end after signing.
