Questions for a clearer claim file
Use these answers to identify the next document or question—not as a substitute for a policy-specific or state-law review.
Using the directory
Does a directory profile mean the firm is recommended?
No. Firm records are factual starting points, not endorsements, rankings, or assessments of legal skill.
Are listed firms accepting new clients?
The directory does not verify current capacity. Contact a firm directly and describe the matter so it can check fit and conflicts.
How do I verify an individual lawyer?
Use the attorney licensing authority for the relevant state. Verify the person who would actually handle or supervise the matter.
Insurance and claim contact
Which insurance policy applies to an injury?
That can depend on the event, people and vehicles involved, policy language, endorsements, and state law. Start with a coverage inventory; do not assume a policy applies from its label alone.
Are PIP and MedPay the same?
No. Both may concern medical expenses, but their benefits, requirements, and coordination with other coverage can differ by state and policy.
Should I give an adjuster a recorded statement?
The answer can depend on which insurer is asking, your policy duties, the request, and local law. Identify the caller, request the question in writing when possible, and get local advice if you are unsure.
What should an insurance contact log include?
Record the date, channel, person, organization, claim number, request, response, files sent, and next follow-up date. Keep the underlying letters and messages.
Documents and resolution
Is an explanation of benefits a medical bill?
Usually not. It describes how a health plan processed a claim. Compare it with the provider bill and payment records.
Why might Medicare be involved in a settlement?
CMS may seek recovery of conditional payments related to an injury when a beneficiary later receives a settlement, judgment, award, or other payment. Use the current CMS recovery process for case-specific steps.
Is a proposed settlement the amount I would receive?
Not necessarily. Attorney fees, expenses, outstanding bills, and valid recovery or reimbursement claims can affect distribution. Ask for the calculation in writing.
Can this site calculate my deadline or coverage?
No. Those answers depend on facts, policy terms, jurisdiction, and current law. A locally licensed lawyer can advise on a specific matter.
